Melissa Mendez BLOG 2 Prompt #1 : (Gender Representation in Movies) The cultural artifact that I chose was the movie She’s the Man. The reason I chose this artifact was because this movie is known for the many stereotypes it has against boys and girls. In other words, it has an understanding from both sides and I feel like that is fair for everyone overall. This movie is one of my favorites because it holds a memory of me as a teenage girl watching and trying to understand how genders really act when they are alone in their social groups. Prompt #2: (Analyze) Authorship- When incorporating Griswold's cultural diamond the receiving audience is a teenage audience while the creator is someone who exemplifies how we are all equal. The social world of this movie can be described as a teenage/college community where it is primarily nothing but teenagers who just moving into college. This cultural artifact says a lot about gender expression because of how women put it on to express how they want to look. Reinforcing ideas of gender expression because it's been around for so many centuries and decades. From a different point in time women go back to as far as the 1800’s wearing shades of red to marvelous events. This does not push back traditional ideas but brings it forward to our present day. To add on, in a way it does go against tradition in a way because of how it is now not only being used for women but also for men.
